We Are Proud To Be A Training Practice

At the Ashley Centre Surgery, we are proud to be a GP Training Practice.

This means that, alongside providing high quality patient care, we play an important role in helping to train the next generation of General Practitioners (GPs). GP Registrars (sometimes called GP Specialty Trainees) are fully qualified doctors who have already worked in hospitals and are now undertaking additional specialist training to become independent GPs.

What Does This Mean for Patients?

You may be offered an appointment with a GP Registrar rather than one of our established GPs. GP Registrars are qualified doctors who bring valuable experience and up-to-date medical knowledge to the practice.

They work under the supervision of experienced GP Trainers and have regular support, guidance, and clinical reviews. This ensures that patients continue to receive safe, high quality care at all times.

As part of our training programme, if you are offered an appointment with a GP Registrar, you will also be offered a follow-up review with one of our Salaried GPs. This allows an experienced GP to review your consultation, discuss any ongoing concerns, and ensure that you receive the very best care and continuity throughout your treatment.

Why Are Training Practices Important?

Training practices help develop the future GP workforce and ensure that there are enough skilled family doctors to care for patients in years to come. By supporting medical education, we are contributing to the future of healthcare in our local community and across the NHS.

Your Confidentiality and Care

As part of their training, GP Registrars may occasionally have consultations observed by a supervising GP or may record consultations for educational purposes. If this is ever the case, we will always ask for your permission beforehand. Your care will not be affected if you choose not to participate.

Many patients find that appointments with GP Registrars are particularly helpful, as trainees often have longer appointment times and can spend more time discussing concerns in detail.

Patients can feel reassured that GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors who are closely supported by our experienced clinical team. Combined with the additional follow-up review from one of our Salaried GPs, this provides an excellent opportunity for comprehensive, high quality care.
